Advanced Cardiac Life Support

Location: Carson

Advanced Cardiac Life Support is an advanced course for Healthcare Providers who are involved in units or workplace situations that use advanced mega codes. The course is designed for the student to have a basic knowledge of cardiac drugs, basic rhythms and how to apply them in a critical situation. The students are required to take a pre course through their student manual, complete the coursework and sit for a written exam and megacode skills test.

* Classes are 8 hours, the recertification classes are 4  hours.

Basic Life Support

Location: Carson

Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers is American Heart Association’s first responder CPR course. This covers all basic CPR certification needed for working in a hospital or medical care facility. If you are not a healthcare provider, you can still participate in this course! There is no pre course information necessary. It is designed to give you the fundamentals of CPR in a medical setting

* Classes are 8 hours, the recertification classes are 4  hours.

Continuing Education

Location: Carson

(Last Monday of every month for Continuing Education)

Preparatory - Roles and Responsibilities, Well-being of the Emergency Medical Technician, Medical Direction, Quality Improvement, Personal Protection, Scene Safety, Medical/Legal, Human Anatomy, Lifting and Moving

Patient Assessment - Scene Size-up, Primary Survey, Vital Signs and History Taking, Assessment of Trauma Patients, Assessment of Medical Patients, Secondary Assessment, Communications, Documentation

OB, Infants, Children - Obstetrical Emergencies, Gynecological Emergencies, Childbirth and Complications, Care of the Newborn, Assessing the Pediatric Patient, Medical Emergencies in Pediatric Patients, Airway Management in Pediatric Patients, Trauma Emergencies and Care in Pediatric Patients

Emergency Telecommunicator Certification

Location: Garden Grove

ETC certification is available to those successfully completing the Academy's 40-hour (minimum) Emergency Telecommunicator Course and achieving a passing score (80%) on the certification examination. Certification is valid for two years. Specifically, certification requires:

  • Ability to read and write at a high school graduate or GED level
  • Attendance at an ETC course taught by an NAED-certified ETC instructor
  • Passing the ETC certification test with a score of at least 80 percent
  • Agreement to abide by the NAED Code of Ethics
  • Submission of a completed ETC certification application along with the $20 certification fee to NAED
  • Submission of a completed ETC course evaluation form to NAED

Emergency Vehicle Operations Course

Location: Garden Grove

This course is designed to instruct first responders as well as civilians in good defensive driving tactics.  This course is also good pretraining for anyone who is going to be entering a police academy and wishes to learn some of the techniques which will be taught. Heavy emphasis on defensive driving, skid recovery, loss of control recovery, control during a blowout, and operating on less than ideal surfaces. The students will demonstrate a working knowledge of driver skills by successfully driving such courses as the Skid Pan, the Hazard Avoidance Simulator, Threshold/ABS Braking, and other various skill and precision oriented activities.

EMT 24-Hour Recertifying Course

Location: Carson

The 24-Hour recertifying course is an approved 24 hour CE-based refresher course for EMTs needing to recertify their state EMT card in California. This course includes the state required Skills Verification and a renewal of the AHA BLS Provider.

EMT Recertifying Skills Exam and CPR

Location: Carson

The recertifying skills exam is a skills evaluation of EMT skills required by the State of California required for recertification of a State EMT Card. Upon completion, students will receive their California State Skills Verification form ready for submission to the Licensing Agency of their choice. This course also includes CPR.

HAZWOPER

Location: Garden Grove

Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response is a set of guidelines produced and maintained by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration which regulates hazardous waste operations and emergency services in the United States and its territories

LA County Alternate Staffing for Inter-Facility ALS Transports

Location: Carson

Students of this course are taught the information required to know for working on an ALS ambulance in LA County. It includes a skills session of basic airway management and issue resolution. It is applicable to both Paramedics and EMTs that may operate in LA County as a 1 Paramedic: 1 EMT transport unit.

LA County EMT Expanded Scope of Practice

Location: Carson

Students of this course will be taught the requirements and knowledge for all EMTs working in Los Angeles County, CA. This course is applicable to all EMTs who did no receiver their initial training in Los Angeles County but plan to work as an EMT in Los Angeles County. This course includes a classroom lecture and an opportunity to practice new skills in the skills lab.

National Safety Council Coaching the Emergency Vehicle Operator Course III (Ambulance) [CEVO III]

Location: Carson

Students of this course are taught the importance of safely handling an emergency ambulance. This course offers a comprehensive coverage of collision-prevention techniques a safety related topics. Graduates receive a CEVO III Patch and certificate.

Orange County Accreditation

Location: Carson

Students of this course will be taught the requirements and knowledge for all EMTs working in Orange County, CA. This course is applicable to all EMTs who did not receive their initial training in Orange County but plan to work as an EMT in Orange County. This course includes a classroom lecture and an opportunity to practice new skills in the skills lab.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support

Location: Carson

Pediatric Advanced Life Support is designed to provide the Healthcare Provider with knowledge on pediatric life saving skills. The students will be give case studies, walked through airway management systems and given the opportunity to practice codes on an infant and child in simulation. Students are required to take a pre course through their student manual, complete all course videos, sit for a written exam, and code case skills test.
